John’s on a Roll: Abbey Brother Bowls His Way to the All England Championships
Abbey Lodge No. 432 Member Qualifies for the All England Championships Crown Bowls
The Brethren of Abbey Lodge No. 432 are delighted to congratulate Bro. John Hatzer on a truly outstanding sporting achievement after qualifying for the British Crown Green Bowls Finals and the prestigious All England Championships.
To reach this stage, John first had to secure his place amongst the County Merit qualifiers, successfully progressing through two highly competitive matches. He then advanced to the final stages, where he won a further two games to earn his place at the All England Championships—an achievement that many bowlers aspire to, but few attain.
John has been playing Crown Green Bowls for over 20 years and currently represents Atherstone Conservative Club in Warwickshire. His dedication to the sport extends beyond his own playing career, as he also manages the Warwickshire County Away Team, which is currently enjoying an excellent season and has reached the semi-finals of the British County Championships.
Those who know John within Freemasonry will recognise that such success comes as no surprise. A naturally reserved and sometimes shy individual, John has steadily developed in confidence since joining Abbey Lodge No. 432. More recently, in his role as Assistant Secretary, he has demonstrated a quiet professionalism and confidence that commands the respect and attention of his fellow Brethren.
The pride and assurance with which John now delivers his reports and updates in Lodge is remarkable to witness, particularly for those who remember the quieter gentleman who first joined our ranks. His journey is a testament to the personal development, friendship and support that Freemasonry encourages, and he exemplifies the values of dedication, perseverance and service both within and beyond the Lodge room.
John’s sporting success is richly deserved, and all at Abbey Lodge No. 432, together with the wider Warwickshire Masonic community, wish him every success as he takes on the best bowlers in the country at the All England Championships.
