Running for Shelter: Matt’s Race to Make a Difference
A member of the Lodge of Unity, Matt Jones, is lacing up his running shoes for a worthy cause as he prepares to take part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon next month.
Matt is running alongside his non-Masonic brother in support of Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity that provides vital assistance to those in need across the UK. Through his efforts, he hopes to raise both funds and awareness for the important work the organisation carries out every day.
Sharing his motivation, Matt said:
“I have pledged to raise £650 which I hope will in some small way aid Shelter in its commendable aim of ending homelessness in our country. ”
The event, taking place on 12 April 2026, highlights a pressing national issue. The housing crisis continues to affect an estimated 1.7 million people, many of whom are without a safe place to call home or are living in poor conditions, including damp and unsafe housing.
Shelter believes that a safe home is a fundamental need and a basic moral right, a belief strongly shared by Matt. By taking on this challenge, he is joining the fight for safe and secure housing for all, with funds raised going directly towards supporting families and individuals facing homelessness and unfit living conditions.
Matt’s commitment reflects the strong charitable values at the heart of Freemasonry. His efforts are a testament to the spirit of service and community support embodied by members of the Lodge of Unity.
