A Trinity of Offices for Bro. S.A. Marris

In the museum at Yenton you will find many beautiful examples of jewels and every board presents challenges as I index them all. Next time you are there, please make a little time to look at them.

This jewel is unique and was presented to Bro. S.A. Marris by the Union Lodge of Instruction 1881-2.

It was manufactured by EWS ? But it might be KWS – but I cannot find any record of eithert – so it might be a case of my poor eyesight.

It is sterling Silver and assayed marked London in 1881.

What makes this jewel unusual is the combination of three masonic offices in one – Secretary, Treasurer and Steward.

This jewel will take a little more investigation to firm up the details.

I can find no specific reference to the Union Lodge of Instruction on the internet – there seem to be a number in different counties in England or overseas.
